DRW is a private non-profit organization that protects the rights of people with disabilities statewide. DRW's mission is to advance the dignity, equality, and self-determination of people with disabilities.
Some of DRW's recent accomplishments include:
- enacting the Trueblood bill (SB 5444) to ensure that persons with mental illness are directed toward appropriate treatment rather than languishing in jail
- winning three awards for groundbreaking storytelling on transportation and access
- working as the state's Developmental Disability Ombuds since 2016
- winning the Paul H. Chapman Award from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice for its use of “structured negotiations” in reforming how county jails and state prisons address the needs of inmates with disabilities
